How do I place an order?
There are several factors that go into the creation of custom cakes or desserts, so the most efficient way to begin a discussion about your event is to contact me here. The first thing I need is the date and time of your event, to ensure that I have the availability. Please provide as much of the following information as possible and I will get back to you right away…
- Date of event
- Delivery time needed
- Location of event
- Event theme or occasion (bridal shower, wedding, birthday, baby shower etc.)
- Number of guests
- Telephone number
- Ideas, color(s), and/or description (inspiration pictures are always welcome)
- Cake flavor, frosting, & filling selections, or other details
How far in advance do I need to order my cake, cookies, or desserts?
I recommend that all orders be placed AT LEAST a week in advance, and I am often booked several weeks out.
Please note that decorated cookies take a good 3-4 days to bake, decorate and dry.
I am often booked months in advance for certain popular wedding dates and holidays, so the sooner you reserve with me, the better. Depending upon complexity of orders, I can only accommodate a limited number of orders each week.
For weddings, I recommend that you reserve your event with me at least 2 months and up to a year in advance.
For short notice orders, please contact me immediately in case I am available and have enough time to physically complete your order (a rush fee may apply).
How much will my cake cost?
Since all of my cakes are unique, and customized to you, I do not have set prices other than for my pre-designed cakes. Base pricing that my cakes start at can be found here. Cakes are priced according to several different variables such as the number of servings, complexity of design elements, and any particulars important to the client. Base prices include a layered cake with filling, and a buttercream frosting exterior. Fondant and any additional sugar work such as gumpaste flowers and fondant figures or decorations are priced separately. Other factors that add to the price include cake sculpting, gumpaste decorations, detailed piping, painting, or other time consuming design elements, and delivery.
How do I pay you?
Payment is due in advance at least 48 hours prior to delivery. You can pay via my easy online invoice with a credit/debit card or PayPal.
Do you require a deposit for orders?
For larger event cakes and dessert orders I require a non-refundable deposit of about 50% of the estimated cost in order to hold your date. Orders are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. I receive a lot of inquiries for dates that are unavailable, so if an order is cancelled at the last minute, I lose business that I could have had from other orders I turned down. For this reason your initial payment will not be returned if an order is cancelled. I understand that some clients prefer to have a tasting and shop around before making a final decision, so I ask that any interested clients confirm their order by paying a deposit within one week of the tasting or appointment, or the order may be cancelled. Final payment must be paid in full at least 48 hours prior to delivery. I accept deposits in the form of cash, check, debit/credit card or paypal payment.
Do you offer delivery?
For all wedding cakes and large event cakes, only delivery is available.
Delivery is included on orders over $75 within 10 miles of Woodbury, Irvine 92620. For deliveries outside 10 miles of zip code 92620, there will be a delivery fee of $1 per mile (round trip). Long distance deliveries may require special arrangements and sometimes not possibly due to scheduling.
An additional $50 delivery and set up fee may be charged for event cakes that are over 2-tiered or 100+ servings. Delivery to Laguna Beach or Balboa Island is an additional $20 due to traffic and parking.
Can I pick up my cake or dessert order?
I don’t recommend picking up larger event cakes, especially multi-tiered wedding cakes, because cakes can be quite delicate and surprisingly heavy. For smaller cakes, other dessert orders, or orders under $75, pick-up can be arranged.
Do you rent out cake stands or serving platters?
Yes, absolutely! Just ask. Rental charges and deposits apply.
How are your cakes structured? What’s inside?
A typical cake (or tier of a cake) of mine is 4” tall, consisting of 4 layers of cake, 3 layers of filling, and covered in a buttercream frosting. If you want a fondant cake, a thin layer of fondant will be on the outside of the cake, over the buttercream layer. I can accommodate requests for taller or shorter cakes or tiers.
What is fondant?
Fondant is an edible sugar paste made from powdered sugar, gelatin, glucose, glycerin and water, and it is only used as an icing (not a filling). Fondant is not a replacement for buttercream; rather it is a final coating on top of the buttercream. My fondant cakes are frosted with a buttercream, and then covered in a thin layer of fondant.
I prefer to cover cakes in fondant for several reasons. Aesthetically, I love the smooth finish it gives to the exterior of my cakes. Fondant also helps keep the cake fresh by providing a seal that helps to keep your cake very moist on the inside. The added strength it gives to the exterior of the cake makes it easier to handle, transport, slice, and decorate. Many of the decorations you see on my website are sculpted or cut out of fondant and can be held in place very firmly even under stressful transportation or weather conditions. Fondant is the most heat stable of any finish, making ideal warm weather months. At the time the cakes are served, the fondant can be cut with the cake and easily removed by anyone not wishing to eat it.
I use a very high quality vanilla fondant for all of my cakes and decorations. I find that many of my clients are happily surprised by how much they like my fondant when they taste it, even those that have told me that they don’t normally care for it.
I can provide a fondant sample during cake consultations/tastings.
How do I cut a cake with fondant?
Please refer to my cake cutting guide.
Do you offer cake tastings?
I am only available for personal consultations/tastings for larger event cakes that serve 100 people or more. Contact me to discuss. For smaller cakes, I ask that you contact me with your order and I will help you come up with ideas for a fabulous cake.
Do you make other desserts or items?
I do everything from holiday pies to full dessert tables. No order is too big or too small (please refer to minimum orders on my menu). I do NOT do cake pops but my friends at Bang POP Shop do.
Do you have a store front?
No, Paper Street Cake operates out of a licensed commercial kitchen. I do not have a retail store or any pre-made cakes or desserts for sale at this time.
How do you handle food allergies?
I can accommodate requests for gluten-free, dairy-free or vegan desserts. I do not make any sugar-free desserts at this time. Not all cake flavors, filling selections, frosting selections or desserts are available to accommodate special needs or allergens. Note that many items on my menu contain nuts and/or nut extracts, so please let me know if you have any nut or other allergies when you place your order. When baking, I avoid cross contamination in that I prepare and bake cakes with nuts separately. Unfortunately I am unable to accommodate anyone with severe allergies. I understand that allergies can be very serious and I use products that may have been manufactured around nut products and all of my products are made using shared equipment that also processes nuts and gluten. I do not have a dedicated allergen-free kitchen. If you have severe allergies, I would recommend contacting a bakery with a dedicated gluten-free or nut-free kitchen for your order.
